There are many great martial art schools and each has a unique benefit. However, we pride ourselves on teaching students to be well-rounded martial artists by cross-training in traditional karate, stand-up, ground fighting and street self-defense. Apart from the physical, our dojo is a community of like-minded individuals and families. Students are required to take part in a variety of leadership projects that relate to community activism, nutritional self-defense, environmental self-defense, non-violent conflict resolution, acts of kindness and respect and more.

Our classes are ongoing. You can start at any time. Keep in mind that the martial arts is a discipline, not a sport. You will be expected to train year-round with reasonable breaks for vacations or holidays. Your consistency and dedication is what will see you through your journey to black belt.

We do not charge belt test fees, nor do we offer upgrade packages. Your belt test is a reward for your hard work and we do not feel it is something you should pay for. Additionally, ALL of our students are offered the SAME opportunities for learning and we do not charge more for Black Belt Club upgrades. When a student enters the BBC, he or she is making a pledge and commitment to black belt training. Every student that enrolls in our school is given the same high quality instruction and is held to the highest standards.

The truth is, there really isn't a "best" martial art style. It all depends on what you are looking for, how effective the teacher is at training you, and how hard you work to perfect your skills. Some martial arts styles stress street combat, others stress sports skills and competition, others stress internal energy or chi, while still others are traditional arts that stress perfection of technique, self-discipline and etiquette. Satori Academy weaves each of these elements into our curriculum. The best style out there for you is the style that helps you meet the goals you have set for yourself, and that pushes you to take your skills to the next level. Just because a style doesn't focus on whatever it is you are interested in doesn't make it a bad style, it just makes it not the right style for you. Be wary of anyone who says otherwise. There is a long running joke in the martial arts, that basically says when someone says X is the best style, what they really mean is "I study X". Keep an open mind and open eyes, and you will find the style or styles that best fit your needs.
