FAQs
Why should I train at Satori Academy and not another school?
There are many great martial art schools and each has a unique benefit. However, we pride ourselves on teaching students to be well-rounded martial artists by cross-training in traditional karate, stand-up, ground fighting and street self-defense. Apart from the physical, our dojo is a community of like-minded individuals and families. Students are required to take part in a variety of leadership projects that relate to community service, healthy eating, environmental self-defense, non-violent conflict resolution, acts of kindness and more.
How often am I (or is my child) expected to train?
For kids, we recommend consistent attendance of two classes per week and two-three classes a week at the advanced levels. Adults are welcome to attend classes on an open schedule.
When does the next session start?
Our classes are ongoing and you can start at any time. Keep in mind that the martial arts is a discipline, not a sport. You will be expected to train year-round with reasonable breaks for vacations or holidays. Your consistency and dedication is what will see you through your journey to black belt.
Besides tuition, what other fees will I be expected to pay?
As you progress to the intermediate level, you will purchase your own gear which ensures that everyone has the same high level of quality and protection, as well as proper hygiene. We do not charge belt test fees, nor do we offer upgrade packages. Your belt test is a reward for your hard work and we do not feel it is something you should pay for. Additionally, ALL of our students are offered the SAME opportunities for learning and we do not charge more for upgrades. Every student that enrolls in our school is given the same high quality instruction and is held to the highest standards.
What style do you teach?
We teach a mixed martial arts style which is a blended system with techniques from Kenpo Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai kickboxing and combatives self-defense.
What if I'm too old, What if I'm not in shape?
We have men and women start at all ages and fitness levels. You don't need to be in shape to get in shape. We are a judgement free zone and are here to help you reach your goals.
Is it safe?
Our clean, modern facilities and equipment and our experienced certified instructors make classes very safe. All staff members are certified in CPR/AED and Basic First Aid in the unlikely event of emergency. We have an automated external defibrillator (AED) on premises at each of our locations.
